My 2024 New Years Media Resolutions
07 Jan, 2024
The beginning of a new year usually leads people to make false promises to themselves under the guise of resolutions. What I am going to do instead is build on stuff I already do, broaden it, and add a sprinkle of limited public accountability through the form of this post. Because of my autism I not only like when numbers go up, but also checking things off a list. Also keeping track of things I do and getting useless statistics out of it. Let me explain:
Movies
Since 2020 I've been tracking my movie-watching on Letterboxd with the goal being each year to watch at least 100 movies where the majority (> 50%) are movies I haven't seen before. This remains the same this year.
Through simple math, we can figure out that this means I need to watch at least two movies a week, which seems extremely doable and I have managed to accomplish a few times in the last few years. So there's not changing much here.
TV Shows
Because I have yet to find a way to track online through some kind of website the TV shows I watch, I tend to fall out of going through with watching shows. In my process of ripping my Blu-ray collection (which might become another post of its own), I have ripped my Twin Peaks and Lost sets.
It is my intention to rewatch the full run of both shows this year. In lieu of tracking websites, I intend to write posts about how both of these shows hold up in retrospect. Especially considering the revelations that have come out about the production of Lost.
Books
GoodReads is where I track my book reading. As an annual reading goal, I've usually set 12 books, one book a month. Which I seem to either completely fail to achieve or completely blow away. This year I've decided to be more ambitious and set the goal at 18, one-and-a-half books a month.
No real plans for this one yet other than finishing my reread of Lord Of The Rings and then reading The Silmarillion for the first time. We will see how it goes.
